Bobby Shafto | Globe v Flat Round 3 @bobshafto | Uploaded February 2023 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Friday, February 10th
Time-lapse of an hour of video shooting from the same spot on the Shelter Island boat ramp. Skip to 5:38 if you just want to see the final scoring without sitting through 5 minutes of wiggly land/seascape.
Observed objects near the horizon migrated around the halfway point between flat geometric and globe geometric (no refraction) calculated position.
Obviously, this was not a "no-refraction" day. (There never is a "no-refraction" day.) But even with all the looming and distortion, flat geometry struggled to overcome globe.
But, it was enough to deny globe a 3rd consecutive win. Scoring this one a tie. Not a good day for distinguishing globe or flat; at least not based on what's going on at or with the horizon. Hoping, by now, the point that we "shouldn't be seeing that island's southern tip" on a globe is not evidence that earth is flat.
