The Global Multistakeholder High Level Conference on the governance of Web 4.0 and Virtual Worlds took place in Brussels and online on the 31st of March and 1st April 2025. This event, co-organised by the European Commission and the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, aimed at triggering the first global discussion on the principles for the global governance of Web 4.0 and virtual worlds feeding into the World Summit on the Information Society 20 years review (WSIS+20).
The conference gathered over 400 participants from 70 countries, actively participating in the interactive discussions organised throughout eight thematic sessions. More than 20 organisations further shared written input after the event. Stakeholders’ contributions shared prior to, during and after the conference helped to shape its outcome document, which will feed into the global debate on high-level, foundational principles for the emerging fourth generation of the web.
