The Twentieth Annual Women & Science Spring Lecture and Luncheon was held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at The Rockefeller University. The program featured Rockefeller's Robin Chemers Neustein Professor Leslie Vosshall, Ph.D., and was hosted by University President Richard Lifton, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Vosshall is a neuroscientist and geneticist who studies sensory systems and behavior, both in insects and humans. Much of her current work is aimed at understanding the molecular neurobiology genetic basis of host-seeking and blood-feeding behavior in the mosquitoes that spread dangerous infectious diseases, such as malaria, Zika, dengue, Chikungunya, and yellow fever. Dr. Vosshall received her Ph.D. from The Rockefeller University in 1993. She returned to Rockefeller as an assistant professor in 2000 to establish the Laboratory of Neurogenetics and Behavior. In 2008, she was appointed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and in 2010 she was granted tenure and named Rockefeller’s Robin Chemers Neustein Professor. She also serves as director of the University’s Kavli Neural Systems Institute. Dr. Vosshall was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2015.
