Glitch Transitions in After Effects or "how to think outside the box" (card wipe version)
Glitch Transition and Animation in After Effects (easy and beginner setup)
In this tutorial you will learn how to set up a title animation.
Learn how to create a famous glitch transition (because a glitch needs to be in every animation these days)
In this easy to follow tutorial you will learn how i use a special technique to set this up.
Learn how to use the card dance effect to create a glitch look.
You will also learn how to set up a glitch transition.
As final steps you will learn how to work on details as well as colors and a glow to bring it all together.
It is meant to be a "think outside the box" tutorial as I am not showing the standard workflow of a glitch effect, where you would normally use a noise pattern like a fractal noise and use that to drive a displacement effect such as the displacement.
I am using an effect called card wipe, where you can define rows and columns and the offset them in x y and z, as well as the x y and z rotation.
So we basically use the front of the cards for the first text and the back of them as the second one. By flipping them over in a random time order we get the glitch effect happening.
also we use pixel motion blur to give the glitch more randomness.
The tutorial will be easy to follow, and also beginners will be able to follow along as I am explaining everything step by step and from scratch.
later on you will be able in a procedural way to switch out the first and last text and therefore create awesome variations of the transition.
As a final step I am explaining how to set up a background for the scene in two different ways. With the vignette effect and with a gradient ramp, as well as a glow that I am applying once for the letters to glow and a second instance to make the whole scene glow.
last but not least I am going to show you the venetian blinds effect, which is normally being used to create a transition, but we will again think outside of the box and use it to create scan lines that almost look like interlaced frames.
in combination with all of that you will also learn a lot about setting up a composition as well as pre-composing, workflows and shortcuts that will also be of great use for other projects
