Star Path Images Photo & Video chose to review the Glide Gear 6001 Stabilization Kit as it looked to be a perfect fit for our videographers, and the price was FAR better than competing units. This independent review of the Glide Gear 6001 and DNA 5050 puts these stabilizers to the test over several different types of terrain.
We found the Glide Gear 6001 to live up to its promises of smoothing out moving shots, even over rough ground and stairs. The machining and workmanship are excellent, and even comes in a case instead of separate pieces to haul around or leave in the studio or production vehicle.
The set up of this system was basically self explanatory, but we've shown how to assemble the DNA 5050 and the 6001. This is certainly the fastest set up of a vest mounted stabilizer that we've used, and the best feature for us was IT'S SO LIGHT!!! Despite its rugged appearance, this unit is very lightweight and even more comfortable that our old GlideCam system, which was 4 times the price! Which brings us to the second best part, the price is extremely competitive and probably the best bang for the buck for this type of stabilizer system.
The 'pros' - It does exactly what it promises and the price is right.
We only found one 'con', and that was the set screw for the arm seems to be slightly small, but this was really splitting hairs.
Customer Service from Glide Gear was fast and courteous, and responded promptly to user inquires.
Star Path Images gives this product an overall rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.
