Instead of studying neurons like most neuroscientists, Beth Stevens studies a kind of brain cell that generations of her colleagues ignored: glia. While these cells were once thought to be little more than the glue that held the brain together, Stevens is learning that they may be the key to understanding multiple neurological diseases.
