Glen Hansard Funeral Arrangements Announced😭
Imagine standing on a cold Dublin street corner, completely captivated by a lone busker whose raw, soaring voice can stop a crowded city in its tracks—that was the pure, unfiltered magic of Glen Hansard. From those humble pavement performances to founding the iconic rock band The Frames, starring in the indie film hit Once, and taking home an Academy Award for "Falling Slowly," Hansard grew into one of Ireland's most cherished cultural icons. His career spanned more than three decades of soulful solo albums, Grammy nominations, and a tireless commitment to Dublin's homeless community through his annual Christmas Eve charity busks. Tragically, the musical world was shaken when the 56-year-old singer-songwriter died on July 29, 2026, following a fatal motorcycle accident near Lucan, Dublin, prompting a massive wave of tributes from artists and fans across the globe.
To celebrate his life and lasting legacy, official arrangements have been released for those who wish to bid him farewell. A public wake is scheduled for Monday, August 3rd, at the Baroque Chapel inside the Royal Hospital Kilmainham (IMMA) in Dublin, where he will lie in repose from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. His funeral will take place the following day, Tuesday, August 4th, at 1:30 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
To accommodate the large crowd expected, a public address system will broadcast the service outside the cathedral, and the ceremony will be streamed live on RTÉ News and RIP.IE. True to his lifelong commitment to charitable causes, Hansard's family has requested that, in place of flowers or gifts, loved ones and admirers send donations to the Simon Community and Ukrainian Action.
