Today we explore two expressions from The Glasgow Distillery Company as we review both Glasgow 1770 The Original and Glasgow 1770 Peated single malt Scotch whiskies.
These two releases showcase different sides of the Glasgow 1770 range, each with its own maturation style and flavor profile.
Glasgow 1770 The Original
The Original expression is double matured. The spirit first rests in first fill ex bourbon barrels sourced from high quality bourbon producers in the United States. It is then finished for around six months in fresh virgin American white oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky, adding layers of sweetness and spice.
Glasgow 1770 Peated
The Peated expression is also double matured but takes a different path. The whisky begins its maturation in virgin American white oak casks before being finished for eight to twelve months in Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads, bringing together smoke, sweetness, and rich sherry character.
In this episode we break down the nose, palate, and finish of both whiskies and share our thoughts on how each expression represents the Glasgow 1770 style.
