In 1989, Europe had almost no domestic capacity for manufacturing probe cards. These are devices that test chips before they leave the factory. Giuseppe Crippa† and his son started building them from a family home in northern Italy.

Today, Technoprobe is Europe's largest and the world's second-largest probe card producer.
