Join Johns Hopkins MS in Geographic Information Systems program director Cassie Hansen as she proudly welcomes geospatial researcher and satellite imagery analyst Brian Perlman who will share the remote sensing methods used to study armed conflict, civilian protection, human rights investigations, and International Humanitarian Law. His work has focused on conflict in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Ukraine, Russia, Sudan, Iran, and elsewhere. He has co-authored two peer-reviewed publications, serving as first author on a journal article concerning WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) infrastructure damage in Gaza.
Perlman is a former Fulbright scholar, an FAA-licensed commercial airplane pilot and drone pilot, and a military veteran. He is a member of the Decentralized Damage Mapping Group (an inter-institutional research group led by Dr. Jamon Van Den Hoek of Oregon State University) and the NASA Lifelines Earth Science Review Board. He holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in Geospatial Intelligence from Johns Hopkins University.
