Who is the girl in the red dress in the Matrix? Fiona Johnson is played by Fiona Johnson in the film. The Matrix: What the Woman in the Red Dress Really Means.

In The Matrix, Neo is distracted from his introduction to the world of simulation by a woman in a red dress. Here's what the character represents. Woman in the red dress really mean in the Wachowskis' 1999 sci-fi classic, The Matrix? Loosely based on Jean Baudrillard’s 1981 philosophical treatise, Simulacra and Simulation, which dwells on the nature of the real and the hyperreal, The Matrix is akin to a thematic and visual lexicon - rife with layers and symbolism as intricate as the film’s virtual world itself.

In order to better understand the woman in the red dress, one must understand the scene’s contextual eminence. On taking the red pill, Neo (Keanu Reeves) is able to see the world’s true construct, becoming hyper-aware of the reality of the human race, most of which is in deep slumber and blind to the truth. It becomes clear that the majority of the human race has been reduced to an unwitting simulacrum to serve the machines, reminiscent of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave - an illusion that can only be dispelled by the emergence of ‘the One’. This is a rude awakening for Neo, but a necessary one. While Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) guides him through the programmed maze of the matrix, Neo gets distracted by a stunning woman in red. This prompts Morpheus to ask, “Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?” As Neo falters, he is held at gunpoint by Agent Smith.

Matrix 1999 Scene: Girl in the red dress matrix. Morpheus and Neo are walking down a standard city street in what appears to be the Matrix. Morpheus explains that the Matrix is a system and that the system is their enemy. All the people that inhabit it, the people they are trying to free, are part of that system. Some are so inert, so dependent upon the Matrix that they can never be free. Neo notices a stunning girl in a red dress. "Are you listening to me?" asks Morpheus. He asks Neo to look at the girl again. Neo turns to face Agent Smith, pointing a gun straight at his head. Morpheus stops the simulation, which has just been created to look like the Matrix.

Neo asks what the Agents are. "Sentient programs," says Morpheus, that "can move in and out of any software hard-wired into their system, meaning that they can take over anyone in the Matrix program. "Inside the Matrix," Morpheus says, "They are everyone and they are no one." Thus Morpheus and his crew survive the Agents by running from them and hiding from the Agents even though they "are guarding all the doors. They are holding all the keys and sooner or later, someone is going to have to fight them." But no one who has ever stood up to an Agent has survived; all have died. Still, Morpheus is certain that because the Agents live in a world of rules that they can never be as strong, never be as fast as he can be. "What are you trying to tell me," asks Neo, "That I can dodge bullets?" "When you're ready," Morpheus says, "You won't have to." Just then Morpheus gets a phone call. "We've got trouble," Cypher says on the other line.

Plot
Computer programmer Thomas Anderson, known in the hacking scene by his alias "Neo", feels something is wrong with the world and is puzzled by repeated online encounters with the phrase "the Matrix". Trinity contacts him and tells him a man named Morpheus has the answers he seeks. A team of Agents and police, led by Agent Smith, arrives at Neo's workplace searching for him. Despite Morpheus's attempt to guide Neo to safety via telephone, Neo is captured and coerced into helping the Agents locate Morpheus, whom they regard as a "known terrorist". Undeterred, Neo later meets Morpheus, who offers him a choice between two pills; red to reveal the truth about the Matrix, and blue to return him to his former life. After Neo swallows the red pill, his reality falls apart, and he awakens in a liquid-filled pod among countless others attached to an elaborate electrical system. He is retrieved and brought aboard Morpheus's hovercraft, the Nebuchadnezzar.
As Neo recuperates from a lifetime of physical inactivity from the pod, Morpheus explains the truth. In the early 21st century, there was a war between humans and intelligent machines. When humans blocked the machines' access to solar energy, the machines harvested the humans' bioelectric power, keeping them pacified in the Matrix, a shared simulated reality modeled after the world as it existed at the end of the 20th century.
