Blue Mario | Gimmick! - "Happy Birthday (Stage 1)" (Famicom) (Restored Samples) [Oscilloscope View] @forple8930 | Uploaded July 2020 | Updated October 2024, 19 hours ago.
Originally composed by Masashi Kageyama, which were then converted/programmed into the ROM by Naohisa Morota.
It turns out that the bass samples in Sunsoft games starting with Journey to Silius suffer from improper sample playback. The bits read are read in a reversed order (i.e. a byte like EA becomes 57, since 1110 1010 = EA becomes 0101 0111 = 57 when reversed) causing a rather noisy and distorted sound when played back. This video showcases what the samples should sound like, which have a more "bassy" sound, with an overall higher quality sound to them. Unfortunately corrscope is not the biggest fan of triggering these waves, so they jitter around a good bit.
