Hannahs Books | GILGAMESH #SumerianSeptember @HannahsBooks | Uploaded September 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
I was thrilled to be listening to Michael K. Vaughan’s exciting announcement of Sumerian September! The particular epic cycle he recommends—about a hero named Conan?—is unfamiliar to me, so I decided to pick up one of my own Sumerian favorites instead: Gilgamesh. One of the key questions in this story—and one I see as similar between Michael K. Vaughan’s choice of reading material and my own—is that both pieces of literature are interested in what makes people civilized and what makes them—well—BARBARIANS.
