Stop-Motion Transformation of GigaPower HQ-05-R Gaudenter. Pretty but flawed. So, this comes with a display stand, but in alt mode the only connection is the plate on his abdomen that has the abdominal release buttons. If I owned it I would glue that panel down, but it’s still a lot of torque to put on that. The abdomens are spring loaded and you have to push a “button” on the back (that engages with both sides) and each of the buttons on the front to release the panels. But often the panels down want to pop, so you have to reach in carefully with a pinky and encourage them. Take care not to disturb the springs or you will spend a lot of time getting them reseated. (Ask me how I know.) Funny enough - although I had to fiddle with the panel I show expanding to get it to pop, when I barely touched my “finger proxy” to the other button, It popped out easily as designed. The heel spurs of the alt mode could really sit flatter so it could stand properly. Oh, and kind of weird - the panels on the backs of the calves are *ratcheted*. I’m not sure I have ever encountered a ratcheted transformation panel before. Also, there are long-armed tabs on the top of the torso that don’t seem to impede the chest expanding, but can bind and you can unclip them and reclip them if desired. Finally, an FYI: Pterosaurs were not dinosaurs, they were reptiles.

Production Note: 500 photos, 1.5 hour shoot. This is the first time I have had to show something pushing a button to make it very clear that there is something to be pushed. No wing flapping because although they put ratchets in the freaking transformation flaps on his calves, they didn’t see fit to ratchet the wing roots, so I had to pick a single position where they could “stick” for the rotation.

If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.
