How Big Were the Biggest Dinosaurs? | Wonders Center Camarasaurus Exhibit
What’s the largest animal to ever live on land? Giant sauropod dinosaurs like Argentinosaurus reached up to 115 feet long and weighed up to 80 tons—dwarfing today’s largest land animal, the elephant.
Here at the Wonders Center and Science Museum, you can see our life-sized replica of a Camarasaurus skeleton, stretching 55 feet and partially circling our rotunda! You can even touch an authentic fossilized sauropod shoulder blade and see the fossilized vertebra (just one backbone!) of this enormous creature.
Despite their size, sauropods were gentle, plant-eating giants with rounded teeth—unless you happened to get stepped on!
Did you know the Bible may describe sauropod dinosaurs? In Job 40:15–24, God speaks of “Behemoth” with bones like iron and a tail like a cedar, eating grass like an ox and standing strong in rivers. This description aligns well with sauropods like Camarasaurus, reminding us that God knows His creation and accurately describes it to us.
At the Wonders Center, we celebrate these amazing creatures as a testament to God’s design. Who knows—maybe we’ll discover something even bigger in a future dino dig!
