The Ghost Productions studio produced an orthopedic focused animation as an internal project that was used as a promotional video for the NASS conference in order to highlight the Ghost studio’s growing visual and creative capabilities. The North American Spine Society (NASS) conference is one of the largest spine conferences in North America and offers attendees the opportunity to attend hands-on courses or view surgical demos in which they may experience surgical training with latest technology in spinal surgery.
This animation depicts beauty shots of contemporary, cutting edge cervical and lumbar plate spinal fixation systems as well as featuring a latticed, interbody implant with a porous titanium coating that promotes osseointegration and increased stability. Mesenchymal stem cells are seen differentiating into osteoblasts with adhesion to the implant’s roughened surface, resulting in successful osseointegration of the implant in the spine.
The shown procedure is an ALIF which is done to commonly treat a lumbar degenerative disc disease in which a degenerated disc becomes painful. An ALIF is done in the lumbar or lower spine, most commonly it is performed at the L4 through L5 , or L5 through S1 at the bottom of the lumbar spine as these segments are most likely to break down. This type of surgical fusion is unique in that the surgery is done from the front or anterior.
