Here’s a technique for giving your through-hole solder joints a super clean look.
And before you start screaming at me, yes, this technique could lead to connection failures, so only ever use it on non-critical projects where you’re feeling a little fancy.
I learned this technique from Saar Drimer and the beautiful Boldport designs he’s created.
First, solder your through-hole connection as usual. Then, brutally flush cut it down all the way to the board.
Come back around and reheat the joint very, very briefly while introducing just a dab of new solder. Just enough to reflow the solder.
The timing and soldering of that last step is critical for getting a good result, and getting consistent results takes practice. But it’s a neat trick to add to your repertoire.
