You can transcode .MTS video files from an old Panasonic TM900 HD camcorder without 3rd party apps! There's an encode function built into MacOS and you can get to it by right-clicking on the .mts file to convert it to an mpeg-4 .mov file that you can use in premiere or another editor
To get to the .MTS files on your memory card you have to right-click on a file called "AVCHD" and select "show package contents" from the menu that pops up, then right click on the "BDMV" file and select "show package contents again. Individual .MTS files will be in a folder titled "STREAM" and you can right click and convert the ones you need.
