The intention behind this Imam's panel is to create a space where our community can hear directly from their local Imams, benefit from their insights, and strengthen awareness and connection across our San Francisco Bay Area institutions:

Sidi Shaan Mukhtar moderates this conversations and guide a chat that allows each Imam to share his perspectives and experiences.
The theme and spirit of the night is "Get to Know Your Local Bay Area Imam." So often our community sees our Imams at the minbar or in moments of formal service, but rarely gets the chance to know the person, the journey, and the heart behind the role. Our hope is that this panel gives our community a rare, candid window into who you are, how you got here, and what you're seeing and feeling as you serve — and that it leaves people feeling closer to their local imams than they did when they walked in.

Born in London, England, Shaykh Tahir A has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983. After completing his religious studies, Imam Tahir Anwar has served the Bay Area Muslim community since 2000. In addition, he is the founding board member of Averroes High School, the Bay Area’s first Muslim high school. He is currently the chairman of the board of NISA, North-American Islamic Shelter for the Abused, an organization that works towards alleviating issues related to domestic violence. He has a passion for community service. He served on the Human Rights Commission for the City of San Jose for over 5 years and on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara for one year. He also leads a group for Hajj each year.
Bay Area native Shaykh Sami Rehman is currently the religious director of Evergreen Islamic Center with a B.A. in Islamic Law & Theology and an M.A. in Muslim Texts. Having studied and taught in the US, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria, he holds multiple licenses in the Islamic sciences and Qur'an memorization. He served at CAIR-SFBA and co-founded Hashimi House publishing. He also teaches, writes, & translates core Islamic literature.
Sidi Shaan Mukhtar is a Bay Area native who was raised in the MCC community from a young age. Over the years, he has contributed actively to Muslim student life, helping establish high school and community college MSAs and organizing youth halaqas at mosques across the San Francisco Bay Area. Shaan holds a BA in Political Science from UC Davis. His pursuit of Islamic learning began early: during middle school, he attended the Ilm Tree Homeschooling Cooperative, where he studied Islamic Sciences (fard ayn) under Shaykh Rami Nsour, and during college he took a gap year to study Arabic in Jordan.
Imam Bilal ibn Yusuf graduated from the seven-year ʿālimiyyah program at DarusSalam Seminary in Lombard, Illinois. He also holds degrees in psychology and political science. Sidi Belal is the Imam of the Islamic Center of Walnut Creek (Darul-Islam Mosque). Shaykh Bilal is currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Islamic Law & Islamic Theology.
