Released in 2013 as the lead single from Daft Punk's final studio album, Random Access Memories, "Get Lucky" is a masterclass in modern disco and funk. The track features the smooth, soulful vocals of Pharrell Williams and the unmistakable "chucking" guitar style of Chic legend Nile Rodgers, creating a sound that feels simultaneously nostalgic for the 1970s and ahead of its time. Eschewing the heavy digital processing of their previous work, the French duo (Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) opted for live instrumentation to capture what they called a "human" feel. The result was a global phenomenon that topped charts in over 30 countries, won two Grammy Awards (including Record of the Year), and became one of the best-selling digital singles of all time. Its lyrics, which Pharrell describes as being about the serendipity of finding an immediate connection with someone rather than just a sexual conquest, are anchored by the iconic, looping hook: "We're up all night to get lucky."
