***READ ME*** I have a couple 37mm Flare Launchers, as well as a couple 26.5mm Flare Launchers (as well as 37mm to 26.5mm, and 26.5mm to 12 GA Flare), and I have been meaning to capture the 26.5mm launchers being fired with the high speed camera, so this shot was a test to see if it was possible.
The result is that yes it's possible to catch it on high speed just like any other pistol, BUT.... not shooting video from behind the shooter such as was done in this video. The problem is the black powder lifting charge causes far to much smoke, so the high speed camera cannot track the flare traveling down range.
in the future when the economy improves we hope to be able to by a box of 26.5mm smoke (and maybe even parachute flare) to capture the flare pistol being fired from the front and sides. these positions would be spectacular due to the fire, unburned powder and smoke.
In the future we also hope to be able to test the 26.5mm flare rifle being used. thats would prove to be the best footage of any flare fired up to this point (I know of no other slow motion flare pistol launching).
