After a challenging year of tight margins and ongoing uncertainty, cotton producers from across the state gathered in Tifton for their annual meeting — focused on research, innovation, and practical solutions to help keep Georgia cotton competitive.

Leaders with the Georgia Cotton Commission emphasized the critical role research plays in sustaining the industry, especially during some of the toughest economic times growers have faced in years.

Economists with the University of Georgia warn that 2026 could bring continued financial pressure, as strong production and stable demand are expected to keep commodity prices persistently low — translating into another year of tight or even negative margins for some producers.

With little room for error, experts say maximizing every acre is no longer optional. From precision irrigation scheduling to improved in-season management, growers are being encouraged to fully utilize the technology and tools they’ve already invested in to protect their bottom line.

In today’s environment, even small management decisions can make a significant financial difference.
