Georgetown University School of Medicine welcomed the Class of 2030 during its annual White Coat Ceremony in historic Gaston Hall — marking the beginning of the students’ journeys as future physicians.
More than 200 incoming medical students gathered on August 7, 2026, to receive their white coats and reflect on the values at the heart of a Georgetown medical education: cura personalis — care for the whole person — service to others, compassion and respect for human dignity.
During the ceremony, Georgetown University President Eduardo Peñalver reflected on the significance of the white coat as students enter the medical profession:
“The white coat itself is a powerful symbol of your new identities, of the trust that all of us place in physicians who care for us and for our loved ones.”
Norman Beauchamp, MD, MHS, executive vice president for health sciences and executive dean of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, encouraged students to see their white coats as a commitment to both science and compassion.
The Class of 2030 was selected from nearly 15,000 applicants and includes students from across the United States and around the world. The ceremony concluded with students reciting the Hippocratic Oath, including portions spoken in multiple languages, as they formally began their medical education at Georgetown.
