Quick history Lesson
Built in 1948 the Ghost Ships of Kiptopeke park were made of concrete because of a shortage of metal during WW2. After using the ships, the US military brought them to St. Charles, Virginia, on the eastern shore, for protecting the area during severe weather. Once arranged, their bilge-cocks were opened to bring on water and they were left to settle on the bottom of the Bay. To this day the breakwater still protects the pier and beach while providing a home to many birds and fish. Flying with birds!
