The conclusion of George Orwell's 1984 finds Winston Smith in the Ministry of Love. There he learns that Big Brother's words are to be considered reality irrespective of their logic, and their war propaganda is to be understood as a true account of history . The implication is of course the effacement of humanity, symbolized by the boot treading on a human face forever.
I discuss some of the philosophical and theological implications of the twentieth century's "linguistic turn" and embrace of totalitarian statism.
