GENTLE JOURNAL FACES
Hey, everybody! I have been working for a few days on putting together a little cheat sheet for drawing/painting faces. I feel like we can be inspired by classical art techniques while still being relaxed and creating 30-minute faces.

STEP-BY-STEP:
A Gentle Way to Build a Journal Face (Short Version)
I build faces in my art journal without planning every step.
I usually:
-Outline a face, neck, and dress with a water-soluble pencil or pen
-Use water to soften the lines and let shadows appear
-Add limited color for hair, cheeks, lips, and clothing
-Tone the page with coffee or gesso
-Finish by adding a little white paint where the face needs space
I don’t try to make it perfect. I let the face arrive, then I help it settle into the page.
