In this Genomics Lite we explore how DNA gives instructions in each one of your cells, to allow your body to function.
We'll discuss:
- DNA regulation, and how different combinations of genes allow different cells to perform particular tasks,
- Epigenetics, and how important this is for cells to function,
- And the new DNA techniques that scientists using to study this incredible science.
We are joined by two scientists from the Wellcome Sanger Insitute who both study how changes in our DNA lead to particular problems. Whether genetic mutations or inherited variation, differences in our DNA can have huge health impacts - from Coeliac disease to cancer. Our guests will describe how an improved understanding of what DNA is doing in a cell is key to developing new treatments.
Hosts for this episode are Jack Monaghan and Francesca Gale.
Guests are Kudzai Nyamondo and Omar El Garwany.
The episode was recorded in December 2025.
You can find out more about the guests, and additional content on genomic science, on our free education website YourGenome: yourgenome.org
Genomics Lite is a public programme of digital events and live webinars, to inspire and engage schools students and public audiences. It is run by staff from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, a non-profit DNA research organisation in the UK.
