Javier Navarro Lara is a Chilean double bassist and electric bass player based in Finland, whose musical voice bridges his South American roots with global soundscapes. With over 15 years of experience – from the raw energy of street performances to major stages across more than 15 countries – Javier’s artistry spans Latin American folk, jazz, metal, classical, and experimental traditions.
In this episode of Uncovering Music IDs, Javier opens up about his musical journey from the streets of Santiago de Chile to the Global Music Department at the Sibelius Academy. Through intimate conversation and live performance, he shares how migration, collaboration and improvisation have shaped his identity as a musician and composer.
Javier also offers a raw, heartfelt improvisation titled “Popurrí in E” – a spontaneous fusion of the rhythms and sounds that have influenced him along the way. He also shares his original poem, El Desgarro del Tiempo (The Rip of Time), reflecting on the fragility of time and memory.
