In this new arrangement, Zuiko (Juihsin Ni) brings the song into a modern soundscape – blending traditional min’yō singing with rock-style expressions on the Tsugaru shamisen. His original percussive techniques, played on the skin and body of the instrument, add a raw, rhythmic energy that bridges old and new worlds.
About the Instrument – Tsugaru Shamisen
The Tsugaru shamisen is a three-stringed Japanese lute known for its powerful, percussive sound. Originating in northern Japan in the 19th century, it’s famous for its bold rhythms, fast picking, and improvisational style. In Zuiko’s hands, it becomes both a melodic and rhythmic instrument – blending tradition with a raw, modern energy.
About Zuiko
A Taiwanese shamisen player, vocalist, and composer based in Finland, Zuiko bridges tradition and modern sound. Performing with the bands KAôS and TATAKI, he merges Japanese folk and rock influences with fearless creativity. His artistry has earned international recognition, including 1st place at the 2023 Bachido Cup and 2nd place at the 2024 Japan Biwako Tsugaru Shamisen Competition.
