Yep it's true, in a flash game called "Haunted House" made by Kmart you could interact with various decorations Kmart had at the time with the final boss being the Gemmy Freddy Krueger. Since Freddy was online only at Kmart in 2006 you weren't able to see him in stores however it's really odd and amazing they decided to include him in this game.
