This morning the unexpected happened, a Cobalt Blue Gemballa Mirage GT was totaled in New York City. The videos and pictures that began surfacing early in the morning looked like an absolute nightmare. The Gemballa Mirage GT lost control and crashed into the back of a minivan parked on the side of the road. I can only imagine what was going through the drivers mind but in a state of panic he immediately fled the scene accelerating down 11th Avenue running multiple red lights with body parts flying off the car while driving away. The Gemballa exhaust from the Carrera GT’s V10 was screaming while he fled the scene. After 5 blocks and hitting multiple parked cars the car came to a stop as it was no longer drivable and looked like it just finished a destruction derby. The driver was surrounded by police and arrested. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident which could have had much different results if the city wasn’t on lockdown for COVID-19.
While I was in NYC this afternoon I drove through the same area where the modified Carrera GT chaos happened and through pure luck while driving by the Midtown Precinct North the car was sitting outside parked on the side of the road. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. This Gemballa Mirage GT is car number 23/25 and one of the rarest hypercars I have ever seen in NYC. The fact it was sitting in front of a police station completely wrecked was mind-blowing. It was shocking to see the extent of the damage to the entire car in person and I can’t believe it was actually drivable after the initial crash. I have been very lucky to see this Cobalt Blue Gemballa Mirage GT driving in Greenwich, CT in the past and was heartbroken to see it completely wrecked on the NYC streets.
Thankfully no one was hurt including the driver. Please stay safe out there!
