Two geese at Logoly State Park, McNeil, Arkansas. The park's springs were used by Native Americans and in the late 1800's by settlers and travelers who believed the spring's minerals had healing powers. In time a small community developed to accommodate the springs' visitors. Local Methodists began using the site as a gathering place until the 1930s. In time the springs' popularity declined, and the area fell into disuse. Part of the area was farmed by Black farmers. The Boy Scouts used the land for their “Camp Logoly” from 1940 - 1967. Then, landowners worked with various agencies to make the area a park. Logoly State Park was opened in 1978. Its 370 acres comprise a State Natural Area that includes unique plant species and mineral springs.
