As the roar comes to an end and the hills fall quiet for another year, Winter tightens its grip. Conditions turn wet, windy, and unforgiving, but there’s still bloody good hunting to be had.
For many in New Zealand, the focus shifts to the tops. Tahr and chamois will soon be rutting and the mission is on for a bull. Stags are still holding antlers and there’s always meat to be collected.
As the temps drop, Australia’s best hunting ramps up. June and July are prime time for the Rusa rut, with stags vocal, active, and on the move. It’s also a strong window for Sambar, while the Northern Territory dry season opens up hard-yards hunting for buffalo and banteng. Cooler weather gets pig hunting firing too, with more movement and longer days in the scrub without getting cooked.
