I need to clarify some things about this level!
Firstly, many of you have already seen this featured on Usermatt's account, with only 1 minute of the level. This is because he didn't realize/forgot that I was going to build another part. Whoops!
Secondly, the recording here is the update. It's not updated onto the published, featured level yet but UserMatt is working on it, it includes another ~22 seconds of gameplay and more decoration in the first square part.
Anyway, this was fun to build and I'm glad Usermatt allowed me to collab with him! I tried to do a lot of unique things in my parts, my parts aren't necessarily my best work but I'm still proud of them and plus I'm trying to get better at finishing things within a reasonable time frame.
0:00-0:07 My part– In the first square, I utilized the non-polar invisible blocks that I invented and also went for a more monochromatic color scheme which I am not used to. Before the update it was pretty empty-looking, which is actually what I wanted but since so many people complained about the lack of decoration me and Usermatt agreed I should add some.
0:07-0:22 My Part– I was inspired to make a whitish color scheme with black highlights when I tried playing GD with invert colors and thought it looked kinda cool. I also decided to mix up the gameplay and do some stuff I don't see often, such as the strategic use of pads and slopes in a ship or ufo part.
0:22-0:32 Usermatt's part – Usermatt's part here looks quite neat, and I loved the use of moving bars and blocks (I wish he did more of that!). The gameplay flowed very smoothly too and it is quite fun.
0:32-0:37 My part – I tried to continue the style Usermatt was going for in the previous part, and building like that made me pretty uncomfortable but I don't think it turned out too bad (except for that purple ball, which is kinda ugly).
0:37-0:52 Usermatt's part – This is my favorite section Usermatt built. It looks so nice, has this great color scheme that switches to the music, and the blocks and orbs look really cool, and the gameplay is smooth and fitting too. Aside from the black buildup part its maybe my favorite thing he's built.
0:52-1:00 Usermatt's part – Amittedly this section of his is pretty bland, but I like the atmosphere he set up and the speed changes work really well.
1:00-1:07 My part– In this part I again tried to continue the atmosphere Usermatt set up with the previous part, and I think it worked pretty well (although I really should have made a custom background, looking back). When I make ball parts I usually default to switching back-and-forth gameplay, so here I tried something different from my usual by using more slopes and portals. I also wanted to make a unique coin location so I set up brick columns where you have to enter them the right way to get the keys to the coin (I actually missed one in this video but I got the coin anyway, hitbox glitch I think).
1:07-1:23 My part– Because of the music here, I wanted to try to make something that looked spacious, so I went with sparser block placement and two layers of reduced opacity light-bg custom background, along with a light color scheme. I also tried something I've never seen before, which is having all the blocks accelerate toward the player. It took a long time to get right, but I'm very happy with it and in-game it looks awesome. But admittedly this part isn't the best, the custom-background is kinda lazy, the block design could be more varied, and the gameplay is too hard for 7 stars.
