Locations 0xFE-0xFF seem to be used by the Hummer sound engine as a temporary register for pointers and stuff
Messing with it could really fuck everything up in sound processing as demonstrated, filling up the stack (0x100-0x1FF) with garbage and causing mayhem, jumping around to seemingly random locations in the code.
