In Arabic, a hundred is treated as a feminine noun and a thousand as a masculine noun. Therefore, when these nouns are preceded by a number from three to ten, the number takes the opposite gender to the noun (hundred and thousand) in accordance with the usual rules, and the word for a thousand is written in its plural form. However, the word for a hundred remains in its singular form and the number preceding it is joined onto the hundred part. The three to ten part of the number is declinable.
