In this episode, Dr. Marie Jarrell talks about embodied identification, the connection you get from controlling a game character. If we see game characters as an extension of ourselves, can this shift how we see ourself outside of the game? And can it change how we see others around us?
Marie Jarrell is a PhD graduate from the Human-Centered Computing Division of the School of Computing at Clemson University. They build video games to research their impact on human learning, perceptions, and real world biases. They have published, presented, and received numerous awards for their work illustrating the significant and varied impact video games can have on people’s lives and larger society.
