📜 Video Description:
Rake had a fun idea for a new series, he'll send me a random 10 year old hack binary without telling me what it is and I'll reverse it and figure out what the hack does, how it works, and perhaps we'll learn how hacks have changed in the past 20 years. Rake sent me this random 10 year old cheat DLL, I have no idea what it does, but we're gonna drop it in IDA and figure it out. Not only will be discover what game it's for, we will re-create the complete original source code!

The goals of this video are:
challenge our reverse engineering skills
create a fun and entertaining video series
learn how cheats have changed over the past 15 years
showcase real world reverse engineering

Ever wondered how writing C++ cheats worked in the past? Let's drop this 12 year old cheat into IDA Pro and find out!

Learn all about game reverse engineering as we dissect a mysterious 12-year-old game hack! In this video, we take on the challenge of analyzing legacy game cheats, specifically a 32-bit DLL, using powerful reverse engineering tools like IDA Pro. Our goal is to perform detailed code analysis and disassembly, tracing the execution flow from the entry point through various functions to understand exactly how this old game hacking tool operated and ultimately attempt to recreate its logic, effectively trying to get source code understanding from the compiled binary.

Follow along this game hacking tutorial as we navigate through Assembly Language using IDA Pro to uncover the hack's secrets. We'll demonstrate techniques like pattern scanning to find crucial functions, identify hooking mechanisms (like the EndScene hook and DrawIndexedPrimitive hook), and interpret low-level operations. Witness the process of static analysis as we identify calls to DirectX functions like SetRenderState and DrawIndexedPrimitive, revealing clues about how game hacks like wallhacks or chams work by manipulating the Z-buffer and textures. We'll even use GitHub to confirm our findings, linking the specific vertex counts back to Counter-Strike: Source.

By the end, you'll see how we successfully performed C++ reverse engineering (conceptually, by understanding the logic intended by the original C++ code) on this decade-old cheat, confirming it as a chams hack for Counter-Strike: Source. This video provides a practical look at decompilation concepts, memory editing principles (like hooks), and the overall process required to reverse engineer game executables. Learn how developers analyze game code to understand cheats and see the power of tools like IDA Pro in action for reverse engineering.
