FR : Petite chanson en mémoire de Bernard Simard qui nous a malheureusement quitté voilà quelques jours. Il l'avait enregistrée d'abord sur le disque Album souvenir Vol 1 du groupe Manigance, puis sur l'excellent disque "Que le yable les emporte", avec Normand Miron et l'ensemble Constantinople. Sa voix donnait à cette chanson tout son sens et sa sensibilité.
EN : Here's a traditional québécois song in memory of Bernard Simard who sadly left us a few days ago. He sung it on the great "Que le yable les emporte" CD together with Normand Miron and l'Ensemble Constantinople. His voice gave this song all of its sensibility and delicateness.
It tells the story of a young man who just came back from war and went to see his loved one. He goes to her door and knocks, but she finds excuses to avoid opening the door, saying it's too late and her parents locked the doors and kept the keys. He then asks if he could enter by the window to warm himself up, adding he is covered in snow and soaked.
She then says that he is losing his time and that he wasted all of his hard work trying to get her heart. He responds that he may have wasted his hard work, but that he didn't lose his time, and asks her : "do you remember dear, when we were like two young lovers, under candlelight?.
