This video shows how to turn off the handicap (additional speed you get when you're not in first place) in Race Mode: on the machine selection screen, hold the brakes when choosing your machine. This will make races more challenging. Sorry if I didn't show you exactly how the difficulty increases in races, but it's up to you to find out! (This will NOT work with the AX mode in GX)
