From the original, there was just enough melodic content for me to change the style without losing some of the motifs. Speaking of, I'm sure many of you will recognize a certain theme from the flute early in. That was requested from the devs and ended up fitting the piece quite nicely for the style change IMO. The music of the whole area was supposed to change depending on where you were or what mission you were doing.

Being near the water is the full bossa nova inspired mix. Being near the warehouse near the lighthouse would be a more eerie version as this area as a mysterious fog would cover this maze-like area making it a bit unsettling. Being in the city area or closer towards the Aquarium would trigger a version of seaside without guitar and some percussion.

You’ll quickly discover that I deviated from the “FusionFall” sound quite a bit within the soundtrack. My goal was to give the game a wide variety of colors with various genres to evoke a “Merging Worlds” concept. My main reason for this is a bit petty to be honest. For those who don’t know/remember, I’ve never played the original FusionFall so I only had the original OST to work with initially. Listening collectively to the original tracks, I felt that it definitely had its “sound” or what I call “musical identity,” but it lacked the musical level of variety that I’d personally come to expect from modern games.

I started by trying to capture FusionFall’s Musical Identity. Then I took those elements to new genres and situations with direction from the development team of course. This concept was to be explored further by associating certain musical styles/instruments linked to individual IPs. For example, KND would have a smooth jazzy piano solo to mesh with their spy-like sound from their original show while Dexter associated with running synths, which matched some of the FusionFall music to help establish an auditory link to his position in the game. Very confident you can at least hear the experimentation throughout each of these tracks.

I’ve played around throughout the years with many different styles and techniques for this project. Even so, the goal was to actually redo the ENTIRE Legacy soundtrack once this “Merging Worlds” concept was ironed out and when we were closer to the full version release. This is actually why most of the music uploaded is mostly un-mixed.
