This video shows how to create different star knobs using Fusion 360 and 3D printing. Therfore we use the Fusion 360 "Circular Pattern" function, which is a powerful tool. The example shown here is just one application for it. If you use the sketch constraints skilfully, you can parameterize and dynamicaly change your sketch, to create different curves. I will show the use of different types using a screw or different (threaded) inserts. After modeling with Fusionm, the model is sliced with Cura 4.3.0 and printed with PLA on a Crealtity CR10-S4
Process steps:
01. Create a new Fusion 360 project.
02. Create a new component (always a good idea, even if not necessary at
all)
03. Create a sketch on the XZ-plane.
04. Create a circle and two offset circles of the required size for the knob.
05. Draw a line vertical to midpoint, cutting the circles.
06. Set three points whre the line crosses the circles.
07. Multplicate the line 7 times over 360° degrees using the
Circular Pattern function (Sketch/Create menu)
08. Multplicate the three points 28 times over 360° degrees using the
Circular Pattern function (Sketch/Create menu)
09. Create curve as shown in the video.
10. Set helper lines of the start and endpoint. The line shall tangent the
inner circle.
11. Multplicate the curve 7 times over 360° degrees using the Circular
Pattern function (Sketch/Create menu).
12. Extrude the shape and now you have the basic shape for a star knob.
13. Modify the shape using rounded surfaces and combine it with screws
or threaded inserts, depends on the use case. That's all for this video.
Fusion 360 is a very powerful tool and can be used for various tasks in
the CAD and CAM environment.
