Make no mistake, you dont have to be into producing to appreciate its efforts but it will definitely help. While still being largely unrecognized for what its worth and most likely argued by some "Good To Your Earhole" (including Michael Hamptons first appearance behind Eddie Hazel) has to be one of the most significant track ever produced or recorded by Funkadelic. Much like Red Hot Mama but with a much more laidback and funky attitude, demanding more attention from the listener, "Good To Your Earhole" accomplishes to overcome the repellent bearings of rock and funk by demonstrating a perfect mix of ingredients while serving them with a straightforward discipline satisfying even the most mainstream of listeners. The subtle interplay of downbeat percussions, manifesting vocals, grooviest of guitars and turbulent basslines merged with Worrels pinpoint precision like keyboards are all mounted into a complete, proportionate and well-balanced package. So much so that seldom is progressive and pop heard in the same context so comfortably together. Almost as complementing each other, the record manages to represent rock and funk in their essential form while keeping both elements explicitly present.
"Good To Your Earhole" is Funkadelics exemplary testimony; the impeccable fusion of funk and rock experimented by many, yet mastered by only few.
