In this lesson, I'll show you how to create interesting rhythm guitar parts over a one-chord vamp using techniques inspired by some of the greatest funk players of all time.
While 9th chords are a staple of funk guitar, there's a whole world of rhythms, chord voicings, fills, and textures that can take your playing to the next level. In this video, I demonstrate practical ideas you can use immediately to build tighter grooves and more musical rhythm parts.
The concepts in this lesson are inspired by Prince, the incredible rhythm sections behind James Brown, the grooves of Tower of Power, and modern funk masters like Cory Wong and Mark Lettieri.
