Fundraising is often used to shield people from any criticism, which is ridiculous because it's not even your own money! Here I talk about how this tends to be weaponized and how ridiculous it is, as it wouldn't be a valid deflection of criticism even if you DID donate your own money - so it's even dumber when you didn't!
