Freedom From Religion Foundation | Fundamentalism: Such a Drag! @FFRForg | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 9 hours ago
On this episode of FFRF's "Ask an Atheist," we’re talking with royalty: Naomi Dix -- one of the most dynamic, versatile, boundary pushing drag artists in the country.
In December 2022, Naomi was hosting a drag show as part of Sandhills Pride in Southern Pines, located in Moore County, a rural conservative county in North Carolina. Local Christian school leaders, administrators and white supremacists groups urged parents to contact the town council, the theater where the show was to take place and show sponsors to ask for the event to be canceled. Naomi and her team were subjected to death threats and harassment.
We talk with Naomi about confronting the far right, how she rallied the community and the anti-drag performer bills that are advancing across the country. She will give also some fashion advice to some of America’s leading Christian nationalists.
