Nick Maley, of Marin Maker Mobile, gives Hackster’s Alex Glow a tour of the Fairfax Dalek. The fully R/C robot can move forward and backward, rotate, and roll sideways thanks to its four mecanum wheels – each with its own motor and speed controller.
The classic “Dalek” voice is live-generated, combining the operator’s voice input with a 23 Hz signal, and output from speakers mounted on the robot so it can properly menace Faire-goers. Nick and his father, Andrew, were working on upgrading the bot with a camera and AI conversation. Here’s hoping they return in 2024!
