The Tragically Hip were a Canadian rock band formed in Kingston, Ontario, in 1984. The lineup—Gord Downie, Rob Baker, Paul Langlois, Gord Sinclair, and Johnny Fay—created a distinctly Canadian sound blending rock, blues, and poetic storytelling. Known for Downie’s evocative lyrics referencing Canadian places and history, the Hip became a cultural touchstone and one of Canada’s most beloved bands. Over three decades, they released 13 studio albums, nine of which reached No. 1, and earned numerous Juno Awards. Their songs, including “Bobcaygeon,” “Ahead by a Century,” and “New Orleans Is Sinking,” became national anthems. Following Downie’s diagnosis with brain cancer, the band’s 2016 farewell tour and final Kingston concert were emotional tributes broadcast across Canada. After Downie’s death in 2017, The Tragically Hip’s music and legacy continued to symbolize Canada’s spirit, identity, and storytelling tradition.
The Tragically Hip were a guest on Dutch TV show "2 Meter Sessies" in 1997.
