We are in the mist of a polar vortex outbreak in May. I planted watermelon directly from seed into the garden hoping to germinate the seeds directly and eliminate transplant shock. Its so cold I bought more gutter cables 300 watts. Temps went down to -2 C/28 F last night, but under the tarp is stayed at a 3.2 C/37F last night. Gutter cables indeed helped.
