Artisan Roy Slaper, who crafted some of the most-prized denim blue jeans in the world, died on July 13, 2026 at age 54. Slaper was featured in a May 6, 2012 “Sunday Morning” story about the history of blue jeans, in which he described to Serena Altschul how, in his Oakland studio, he singlehandedly created jeans designed to actually look better as they age.
